Halloween is more interesting when you let it be complicated.
The Night Between is built for the child who wants to know where a tradition came from, why people believed what they did, and how a story changes when it crosses centuries and cultures.
It is secular, story-rich, and deliberately multidisciplinary. There is history here, but also perception, folklore, symbolism, migration, remembrance, and the wonderfully human habit of turning uncertainty into stories.

Treat legends as clues, not trivia.
The banshee, púca, fairy folk, selkies, changelings, brownies, ghosts, and strange lights all become questions: what did people believe, what fear or warning might the story carry, and how has pop culture changed it?
Ask why spooky things work on us.
Learners look at what low light, uncertainty, sound, and imagination can do to perception, then move into remembrance, symbolism, and creative reflection instead of stopping at the decorative version of Halloween.
FOLKLORE FIELD NOTES
Read the legend. Then investigate what it was doing.
Instead of treating folklore as a list of creatures to memorize, learners choose a story and look at its origin, the belief behind it, the warning or fear it may represent, and what modern books, movies, games, and retellings have changed.
That shift matters: the worksheet becomes an exercise in source thinking and cultural interpretation, not just a spooky vocabulary page.
REMEMBRANCE ACROSS CULTURES
Notice the shared human impulse without flattening the traditions.
A comparison page looks at Samhain, Día de los Muertos, All Souls' Day, ancestor traditions, and modern memorial customs as distinct practices that can still share themes: remembering people, keeping stories alive, using food or light, and gathering in community.
The goal is not to declare them the same. It is to help learners notice both connection and difference.
