A headline may leave out a study’s limits, and three websites may repeat the same report. The Evidence Trail gives learners fictional source cards, study summaries and everyday claims to examine before they decide what the evidence supports.

The activities move from asking a focused question and comparing source types to tracing citations, recognizing shared origins and writing a supported conclusion. A separate Parent & Teaching Guide includes reasoning keys, discussion support and research references.

How it fits your homeschool

Fit and readiness
Suggested ages 12–14; ages 10–11 with adult help for reading and vocabulary. Learners read short source cards and explain their reasons. Denser pages may benefit from a read-aloud.
Learner independence
4/5 — Mostly independent. Reading, source comparisons and written explanations form the core work; discussion, dictation or a separate notebook can support participation.
Parent involvement
2/5 — Light involvement. Preview the guide, help with difficult reading and discuss the learner’s reasons after a first attempt. Keep the reasoning keys separate until the cases have been tried.
Time and rhythm
Work across flexible sessions, using the natural stopping points. No fixed completion-time estimate is advertised for this edition. Reading support, discussion and a longer investigation add time.
Preparation
1/5 — Open and go after printing. Print and order the learner pages, preview the guide and gather a pencil or pen.
Materials and setting
US Letter paper, printed pages and a pencil or pen. A highlighter and separate notebook are optional. The core work needs no account, app, internet, outdoor trip, live experiment or second learner.

Support and preparation ratings are editorial planning guides, rather than learner-tested scores. Reading and response needs determine the help each learner will use.
